Lantern Keeper
Free to play · Version 0.28

Keep the light burning.

The fog comes every night. You are the last lighthouse keeper on a long, dark coast. Hold back the creatures, choose a new upgrade after every wave, face a guardian every fifth, and grow stronger each time the light goes out.

How a night goes

Defend. Choose. Grow. Return.

Every night is a new run. Every run leaves you stronger. Easy to start in a minute, deep enough to master for months.

  1. Defend the light

Your lantern fires on its own. Tap the creatures that slip through, and trigger your keeper's ability when the fog closes in.

  2. Choose 1 of 3

After every wave, pick an upgrade. Burning bolts, frost halos, split beams: find the combos that turn a lamp into a storm.

  3. Face the guardians

Every fifth wave a guardian rises from the deep. Survive it and the night goes on, harder and richer.

  4. Grow and return

Embers from every night buy lasting upgrades in the Workshop, and your lantern keeps earning a little while you're away.

Features

A whole coast to keep

From a quiet first night on the Fogbound Coast to the edge of the world, there is always another region to chart, another build to try and another keeper to meet.

A night in the Aurora Expanse: green northern lights, ice and dozens of fog creatures closing in on the lighthouse.
25 regions

Chart the fog, region by region

Each region has its own sky, its own creatures and its own rule. Whiteouts in the Frozen Reach shorten your lantern's reach. Gusts in the Jade Tempest push creatures sideways. In the Ember Empire, elites march more often and burn hotter.

  • Route maps with battles, elites, events, treasure, merchants, rescues and a guardian at the end
  • Endless nights, a daily challenge, weekly goals, a Boss Rush and Ascension levels
  • A Codex of every creature, guardian, weapon and place you have seen
Prepare the lantern: three upgrade cards to choose from, Hunter's focus, Frost glass and Bounty, each with its effect and synergies.
The route map of the Ember Empire: paths of battles, elites, treasure, repairs and mysteries leading up to the guardian.
Your build, every night

Build a lantern no one has seen

Pick a keeper and a weapon, slot your charms, then shape the night one upgrade at a time. Upgrades level up and combine into synergies, so two nights are never quite alike.

  • 17 keepers, each with their own ability, and 31 weapons from the Flare Pistol to the First Flame
  • 27 charms and dozens of upgrades with named synergies
  • A Workshop of lasting upgrades, and a lighthouse to relight and climb
Wave 10: the Tidewraith, a guardian shaped like a great fish, rises among the fog creatures.
The Co-op screen: host a night online, on the same Wi-Fi, or phone to phone.
Together or head to head

Up to four keepers, one lighthouse

Light the way together in co-op: every keeper fights with their own lantern, weapon, ability and upgrades, and the team votes on what comes next. Or prove your build in ranked 1v1 PvP.

  • Co-op online with a room code, on the same Wi-Fi, or phone to phone with a QR code
  • Server-run nights, where no player's device decides for the others
  • Ranked PvP with ratings and a leaderboard. Every device plays a match exactly the same
The Lantern Bazaar: a night market on the harbour seen from above, with striped stalls for the merchant, the Workbench and the community board, strings of lanterns and lit houses behind.
Between the nights

Meet other keepers in the Lantern Bazaar

Walk a lantern-lit harbour where keepers gather. Swap items on the Market, craft boosts at the Workbench, trade with friends, and show off your look.

  • A walkable 3D harbour, live with other signed-in keepers
  • Friends, parties, chat, trading and the Market, with blocking and reporting built in
  • Festivals, collections and music you unlock by playing
The Shop's wardrobe: stripes, scarves and hoods for your keeper, bought with embers.
The Codex: a gallery of creatures such as the Wisp, Shade, Drifter and Hulk, with how many you have defeated.

Questions

Good to know

Is Lantern Keeper really free?

Yes. The whole game is free, with no ads. A few cosmetic items can be bought, and they never change how you play.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play everything without one, and your progress is saved on your device. A free account adds cloud saves across devices, friends, online co-op, ranked PvP and the Bazaar.

Can I play offline?

Yes. The apps play offline, and the web version does too once you add it to your home screen or install it from your browser. Your progress syncs when you're back online.

How do I play with friends?

Open Co-op. Online, one keeper hosts a room and shares its code. On the same Wi-Fi you can play without an account, or pair two phones with a QR code. Up to four keepers can share a lighthouse.

Is there an iPhone or iPad app?

The easiest way is the web version in Safari: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, and it plays full screen and offline. The app itself is available for sideloading on the Downloads page. It is not on the App Store yet.
