Terms of Service

Version 1.5 · Effective 2 October 2026 · Applies to Lantern Keeper for Android, the desktop app and the web version.

These terms are an agreement between you and Exenova ("we", "us"), the maker of Lantern Keeper. By playing the game or creating an account you accept them. If you don't agree, please don't use the game. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information.

1. Who can play

Anyone can play as a guest. To create an account you must be at least 13. If you are 13 to 15, a parent or guardian must agree before you make an account (the sign-up form asks), and if you are under 18 a parent or guardian should read these terms with you. Where your country sets an older age for agreeing to these terms or to data use without a parent, that age applies.

2. Your account

  • Give a real email address you can read: it is how you confirm the account and recover it.
  • Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else is using it.
  • Choose a keeper name that is not offensive, hateful, sexual, or pretending to be someone else. We may change a name that breaks this rule.
  • One person, one account. Don't sell, trade or share accounts.
  • You can delete your account at any time in Profile > Account and sync.

3. Fair play

Don't cheat in ways that affect other players or our service. In particular, don't:

  • send edited or impossible saves to our servers, or try to get around the checks that correct them;
  • attack, overload, probe or reverse engineer our servers, or read data that isn't yours;
  • use bugs to get paid items for free, or ask for refunds for items you keep using;
  • harass other players, including in co-op and chat;
  • in ranked PvP: report a result that didn't happen, play on someone else's account, arrange results with another player, or use tools that tap or play for you. Leaving a ranked match counts as a loss. We may reset ratings or remove players from the leaderboard for this.

What you do in your own offline game is up to you (the game even has a debug mode), but saves sent to our servers are checked and may be corrected. If you break these rules we may correct your save, suspend or close your account. Where we close an account for a serious breach, we don't refund items bought for it, unless the law says we must.

4. Game currencies and items

  • Embers, shards, upgrades and other things you earn in the game have no money value. They can't be sold, exchanged for money, or moved to another account, and we may rebalance them as the game changes.
  • Items you buy are cosmetic or supporter items. They never give an advantage in the game. What you buy is a licence to use the item in Lantern Keeper on your account, not ownership of it.
  • Lumens are a premium currency you buy with money and spend on looks. They only ever buy cosmetic items, never an advantage. Like other game currencies they have no money value outside the game: they can't be sold, exchanged for money or moved to another account, and they are kept in your account on our servers. A purchase with Lumens is final once confirmed; if Google Play refunds or cancels a purchase, we take back what it gave (the Lumens of a pack, or the items of a supporter pack).
  • Purchases are made through Google Play and follow Google Play's payment and refund terms. Purchases are tied to your account; use Restore purchases after signing in on a new device.
  • Boosts, keepsakes, materials and event items are earned in the game (boosts can also be bought with embers or made from materials at the Workbench). Boosts help only in PvE nights, never in PvP. None of them is ever sold for money or Lumens.
  • Trading and the Market: you can trade items with your friends through your Trade chest, or swap them with any player on the Market. A trade happens only when both players have confirmed the same offers, and then it is final. A Market listing holds the items it gives until someone takes it, you cancel it or it ends after 7 days (then the items come back to your chest); taking a listing is final. Traded items have no money value: don't buy, sell or trade them (or accounts) for real money or anything outside the game. We may reverse a trade, or remove items, that came from a bug, cheating or fraud. Items in your Trade chest are part of your account and are deleted with it.
  • If we ever stop offering an item or the online service, we will give reasonable notice in the game. Anything required by the consumer law of your country stays in place: these terms don't take away rights you have by law.

4a. Refunds

Lumens and the Supporter Pack are bought through Google Play, and refunds for them are handled by Google Play under its own refund policy (see Google Play's refund help). To ask for a refund, use Google Play: we don't take payments ourselves and can't refund outside it, except where the consumer law of your country gives you a right to it. If a purchase is refunded, we remove what it gave (the Lumens from a pack, or the Supporter Pack's items). Lumens already spent on a look are not refunded by us, because the purchase with Lumens is final once you confirm it. Before any purchase or spending of Lumens, the game shows the price and asks you to confirm.

5. Co-op, chat and the community

Co-op connects you with people you choose: directly, through our online service, or through a relay server. If you use a relay run by someone else, we don't control it. Don't share personal information in your player name or in chat.

In chat, whispers, parties and your profile, be kind. Don't:

  • harass, threaten, bully or stalk anyone, or post hate speech, sexual content or anything illegal;
  • spam, advertise, or post links to scams or cheats;
  • pretend to be another player, a moderator or us;
  • ask other players for passwords, codes, personal details or payment.

Use Block and Report in Social when someone breaks these rules. Messages are filtered automatically and reviewed by moderators when reported. We may remove messages, mute you in chat for a time, or suspend or close your account, depending on how serious the breach is. Chat is offered as it is, and what other players write is their responsibility, not ours.

6. The game and our content

Lantern Keeper, its art, music, code and names belong to Exenova or to the people who licensed them to us. You may play the game for your own, non-commercial enjoyment and share screenshots and videos of it. Don't copy, sell or redistribute the game itself, or use its content to make another product. Open-source parts are covered by their own licences, listed in the game's files.

7. Changes, availability and saves

We keep improving the game, so features, balance and content change. We aim to keep the online service running but can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. Cloud saves are there to protect your progress, but please also keep the game up to date. We may end the online service with at least 60 days' notice in the game; guest and local play would keep working.

8. Disclaimer and limits

The game is provided "as is". As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses, lost progress caused by things outside our control, or losses caused by breaking these terms, and our total responsibility to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, or rights you have as a consumer.

9. Ending these terms

You can stop playing and delete your account at any time. We may end these terms for an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks them, as described in section 3.

10. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, the new version will be posted at this address with a new version number and date, and important changes will be shown in the game before they apply. Continuing to use your account after that means you accept the new terms; if you don't, you can delete your account.

11. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, without taking away the protection of the consumer laws of the country where you live. Please contact us first; most problems can be sorted out quickly.
