Getting started
Is Lantern Keeper free?
Yes, the whole game, on every platform, with no ads. A few cosmetic items can be bought; they change only how things look, never how you play.
How do I play?
Your lantern fires at the fog creatures by itself. Tap or click creatures to strike them yourself, and use your keeper's ability when things get tight. After each wave, choose one of three upgrades. Every fifth wave brings a guardian. When the light goes out, spend the embers you earned in the Workshop, and set out again stronger.
What's the difference between Endless night, Set out and the daily challenge?
Endless night goes on until your lighthouse falls. Set out takes you across the regions on a route map of battles, events and treasure, ending at the region's guardian. The daily challenge is the same night for every keeper that day, with its own twist.
Which age is the game for?
Everyone can play without an account. Creating an account needs you to be 13 or older, and keepers aged 13 to 15 need a parent's agreement.
Accounts & saves
Do I need an account?
No. Without one, your progress is saved on your device. A free account adds a cloud save that follows you between devices, plus friends, online co-op, ranked PvP, trading and the Lantern Bazaar.
How do I move my progress to another device?
Sign in with the same account on both. If both devices have progress, the game shows you both saves side by side and lets you choose; nothing is overwritten without asking. Without an account, use Settings > Save transfer.
I didn't get the sign-up or reset email
Codes can take a minute. Check your spam or promotions folder, and that the address is spelled right. You can ask for a new code after a minute. If it still doesn't arrive, write to us from that address.
How do I delete my account?
In the game: Profile > Account > Delete account. You'll be asked for your password. The account and everything stored with it is deleted; the progress on the device you're using stays there as a guest save. If you can't sign in anymore, email us from the account's address.
Friends & co-op
How do I play with friends?
Open Co-op. Online: host a room and share its code (a free account is needed, to keep rooms safe). Local network: play on the same Wi-Fi through a computer running the co-op server. Phone to phone: pair two devices nearby with a QR code. Up to four keepers share one lighthouse.
What is a server-run night?
When the game's co-op server runs the night, every player's game just sends its actions, and the server decides what happens, so no one's device decides for the others. When the game's server is available, it is the default for online rooms. It sleeps when no one is playing, so the first keeper in may wait up to a minute while it wakes.
Someone is being unkind. What can I do?
On any player's card you can block, mute or report them. Blocked players can't see you or contact you, and you won't see them, including in the Bazaar and on the Market. Reports reach us with the context needed to act.
"Could not reach the co-op server"
Check your internet connection and try again in a minute. On a local network, make sure the computer running the co-op server is on the same Wi-Fi and its firewall allows it; on Android use the computer's network address, not "localhost".
Devices & controls
Which devices can run it?
Any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari), Windows 10 and 11 (x64 and ARM), macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Linux, Android 7 and newer, iPhone and iPad (in Safari, or the app by sideloading), the Steam Deck, and Xbox through Microsoft Edge. See Downloads. The game's Settings > Compatibility screen shows what it found on your device.
How do I install it on iPhone or iPad?
Open the web version in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It then opens full screen, works offline and keeps your progress. The app itself can be sideloaded from the Downloads page.
Can I use a controller?
Yes: Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo-style and most other controllers, including the Steam Deck's. The game names the buttons for your controller, shows a controller map when one connects (and from Pause), and lets you remap every action in Settings.
The game runs slowly or the text is too small
In Settings, choose a lower graphics preset or a frame-rate limit, and set the text size, contrast and touch-button size to suit you. There are also colour-vision palettes, captions for sounds, reduced motion and left-handed controls.
Windows or macOS won't open the app
The apps aren't code-signed yet, so the system warns about them. On Windows choose More info > Run anyway. On macOS, try to open it once, then go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.
Purchases
What can be bought?
Only cosmetics: looks for your keeper and lighthouse, and Lumens, a premium currency that buys looks. Nothing that makes you stronger is ever sold. Purchases are made through Google Play in the Android app, and kept with your account.
My purchase didn't arrive, or I changed devices
Sign in, then open the Shop and choose Restore purchases. A purchase still marked as pending is added as soon as Google Play confirms it. If something is still missing, email us with the Google Play order number.
Refunds
Refunds go through Google Play, under its refund terms. When a purchase is refunded, what it gave is taken back from the account.
Your data
What do you collect?
Without an account, nothing: your progress stays on your device. With an account, what the Privacy Policy lists: your email, keeper name, cloud save and what the online features need. No ads, no advertising ID, no analytics or trackers, and we never sell your data. This website sets no cookies either.
Can I get a copy of my data?
Yes: Profile > Account > Download my data gives you everything the account holds. You can also hide your profile, switch cloud saves off, and turn news emails off with one click.
Service status
Whether the game's online services answer right now, checked live from your browser. The game itself never needs them: without a connection it plays offline and syncs later.
